The next morning my chest was a little stretched and sore. The remaining sutures were tight and they felt like they were pulling when I moved in certain ways. We were packed and within a short time ready to leave. I had purchased several bottles of wine to replace what I used from her father’s wine rack, the sheets were changed and Natalie called the maid service to clean up before her parents came back. She then called Jackson at the guard shack to tell him we would be leaving shortly, and she said that he didn’t say it, but she sensed his relief.

“I think I had better remove the rest of these sutures before we go.” I said. Natalie brought her purse full of surgical instruments, and we boiled them in water for a few minutes before starting. As each one was cut and pulled out, a small drop of pus followed it. Natalie was a little grossed out after the first one so I sent her out of the bathroom while I finished. It is amazing that a seasoned detective could shoot three people dead, cry over the remains of an old boyfriend pulled from the guts of an alligator, yet wretch at the sight of a small yellow dot from my incision line. After the stitches were out the area felt better, but I used a hot moist compress to draw as much of the infection from the wound as I could. I then applied an antibiotic ointment and covered the area with a bandage. “If the infection doesn’t clear, I may need to see a doctor, but I hate that.” I said. Natalie helped me load the boat on the trailer and we were ready to travel.

After five hours, we were still an hour from home, but only a half hour from Sebastian.

“Why don’t you call him.” I suggested. “I would really like to see what’s on that phone.” She agreed and made the call.

“Sebastian, we have another phone for you to open for us. No, no dogs. We are about twenty minutes away. Thanks.” Then she hung up and laughed.

“So I guess we are good to go?” I asked.

“I don’t think he likes it very much. Surprise visitors, as well as surprise anything else are not really his thing. After this we should probably try to find a peace offering that will insure his future cooperation.” “Like what?” I asked.

“He has a fascination with aliens.” Natalie said. “Maybe something from space. I don’t know.”

“I have a meteorite that I was told may have come from Mars, based on its’ composition.” I said. “Would that work? It would be like a gift from home.” Natalie just dead-panned me with her eyes as we pulled up to Sebastian’s house. She placed the required call and he met us at the door. He again appeared to be wearing the exact same clothing.

“I heard you got shot.” he said to me as we neared the porch.
